No matter the occasion, our goal is to deliver a dining experience that exceeds expectations. In partnership with Creative Dining Services, we proudly serve students, staff, and alumni while giving parents confidence that their community is well cared for.

  • Food and packaging make up nearly 45% of U.S. landfill materials.
  • Food service operations throw out 4–10% of the food they purchase before it ever reaches a plate.
  • Packaging alone contributes over 23% of the material in U.S. landfills.
  • Eliminating packaging can conserve energy and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We prioritize eco-friendly practices by using biodegradable or reusable materials whenever possible, reducing food waste through careful planning, and continually improving our operations to minimize our environmental footprint. Our team works daily to make responsible choices—from mindful purchasing to efficient production—to support a more sustainable campus and community.

What can I do to minimize food waste?

  • Take only what you think you can eat to reduce discarded food in the dining halls.
  • Donate unused shelf-stable foods to a campus or community-based food bank.
  • Consider organizing or participating in a Food Recovery Network chapter on campus. Learn more at www.foodrecoverynetwork.org.

JOIN THE GREEN CONTAINER MOVEMENT

At Northwood Dining Services, we prioritize eco-friendly practices, which is why we’ve introduced Green To-Go Box Containers. We understand that our diners have busy schedules, balancing classes, practices, games, and dining hours. Our reusable to-go containers allow you to enjoy your meals on your own time and in the space that works best for you.

TO-GO BOX POLICY
  • Ask Nicely: Grab a reusable to-go container from the cashier
  • Tiny Deposit: Pay $5 (cash or card) + swipe/pay for your meal
  • Fill it Up: Fill your to-go container with your favorites!
  • Return and Swap: Bring back your used container and trade it in for a clean one.
  • Before you Leave: During finals week, turn in your container and get your $5 back!

ALLERGIES AND DIETARY RESTRICITONS

Approximately 200,000 Americans require emergency medical care each year due to food allergies. At Creative Dining, our Allergen Awareness Program helps keep diners safe by clearly identifying the nine major food allergens in the items we serve. We also highlight options for additional dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, and halal. Diners can easily find menu items that fit their dietary restrictions and food preferences thanks to our clear and visible menu boards and signs.

We identify the nine major food allergens including: WHEAT, MILK, EGG, SOY, PEANUT, TREE NUT, SHELLFISH, FISH, AND SESAME.
